2 Ultimate Tips to Being More Sustainable

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. It’s about making small changes in your daily life that have a big impact on the planet. Here are two ways to be more sustainable that are simple and effective.

  1. Small Steps go a Long Way!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the scale of the environmental challenges we face, but the truth is that small steps can make a big difference. Even if it may not always feel that way! So I encourage you to take it slow when you’re starting your sustainability journey. Set realistic and achievable goals that fit well into your current lifestyle, that way you don’t get burnt out.

Here are some small and simple changes you can make to reduce your environmental impact:

    • Bring a reusable water bottle and coffee cup with you when you leave the house.

    • Say no to single-use plastics, like straws and shopping bags.

    • Turn off lights and electronics when you’re not using them.

    • Choose to walk, bike, or take public transportation (if it’s safe in your area!) instead of driving alone.

    • Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances.

    • Buy locally sourced & organic produce.

  2. Take it slow!

Ever heard of the phrase “slow and steady wins the race”? It’s a cliche, but is super applicable to this space. Sustainable living is a lifestyle, not a trend. It’s important to take your time and make changes at a pace that works for you.

Here are some sustainable tips to help you take it slow:

    • Start with one small change at a time. For example, try switching to a reusable water bottle before tackling other areas of your life. Once you nail that down, then you can move onto something else like switching to reusable straws, or even composting.

    • Make sustainability a habit. Consistency is key to making lasting changes. I like to use my sustainability habit tracker which is a totally free download you can get here. This can help you stay accountable on introducing sustainable practices into your everyday routines.

    • Celebrate your successes. Every small step you take towards sustainability is worth celebrating. If you remembered your reusable grocery store bags, share it with your friends and family, or pick up a little treat as a way to reward yourself. Adopting new habits can take time and energy, so don’t forget to be proud of yourself too!

    • Don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember that sustainability is a journey, and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. We’re all human and being 100% perfect all of the time is nearly impossible. If you mess up one day, take a deep breath and remind yourself that there is always tomorrow.

    You can do it!

By making small changes and taking it slow, you can make sustainability a part of your daily life. Together, we can make a big difference for the planet. 🌎
