How to Create an Intentional Holiday Season

Let’s talk about the holiday season. It’s definitely a time of year that can cause many people to stress out - me definitely being one of those people! I’ve found that creating an intentional holiday season by setting boundaries, creating more than consuming, and reaching out to loved ones really helps lessen the stress & make the season more enjoyable.

We’ve chatted this topic on this episode of the Mind Body Planet podcast where we go into more detail, but let’s dive into here in blog style format so we can visually break down how you can create an intentional holiday!

How to Create an Intentional Holiday

Step 1: Set Boundaries

I know this is easier said than done, but setting boundaries during this time of year is essential to make sure you’re getting the most out of these months.

Step 2: Beware of Advertising

BEWARE OF ADVERTISING! This time of year it seems like everyone and their cousin is trying to sell you something. You’ll see influencers pushing random “must have products” and companies running limited time only sales to get you to purchase their products and services. This is your reminder, that those products will still be there after the holidays, and those sales will come again, so you don’t have to cave in and buy a bunch of new stuff to feel like you’re experiencing the holiday season. You can perfectly enjoy the season by making homemade decorations, foods, and even gifts!

Step 3: Give Grace to Those Around You

You never know what someone is going through and this time of year can be so stressful. It’s difficult to know who is celebrating this season after the loss of a loved one or struggling financially after getting laid off. Give grace to those around you, and even think about giving back and volunteering in your community. I find whenever I’m able to dedicate time to my community, I’m able to remember all of the reasons this season can feel so magical.

Step 4: Reach out to Friends and Family

The cold weather is not fun for everyone and can make you feel really down. Whether you struggle with season depression, or just feel sluggish being cooped up inside due to chilly weather, there are a few things you can do to help improve your mood. The first thing I suggest is reaching out to friends and family. Connecting with our loved ones, can help us feel less alone! Make an extra effort to reach out to your people & inner circle and check in with them too. You may find a ton of comfort in talking with your support system.

(Psstt.. When I feel sluggish from the cold weather, I also love lighting a candle and having super cozy vibes in my home! I like these ones from Arbor Made*)
