Is 9 Elements Sustainable or is it Greenwashing?

Welcome to the series where I see if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is 9 Elements sustainable or is it greenwashing?

9 Elements is a household cleaner and detergent brand found at most grocery stores, and it gets its name from the ingredients list being 9 ingredients or less - not bad!

One thing I noticed right off that bat is that the main marketed ingredient is vinegar, and their marketing really plays on the DIY vinegar solutions, but I find that a little misleading since vinegar isn’t the main* cleaning ingredient in any these products. *Vinegar is towards the bottom of their ingredient list.

Their products are made with no synthetic fragrances or Artificial preservatives & I do like that the all of their products are at least 50% USDA Biobased Certified & meets the EPA Safer Choice standard.

So is 9 Elements sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Other than that, the brand has ZERO sustainable initiatives, no information regarding ingredient sourcing or manufacturing practices, and is not cruelty free. They don’t seem to be active in any community efforts, they’re packaged with a LOT of plastic, and they’re owned by P&G. So while I would say they have clean ingredients, I wouldn’t call this brand sustainable.

So it feels greenwash-y to me - but what do you think? 🪴
