Is Ilia Sustainable or is it Greenwashing?

Is Ilia sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Welcome to “Sustainable or Greenwashing” series where I’m sharing if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is Ilia sustainable or is it greenwashing? 💄

Ilia was started after the founder was set to re-create her favorite lip balm so that it would be safe, effective and natural.

Ilia is Leaping Bunny Cruelty Free, paraben free, phthalate free, Sulfate free, & mostly vegan (they use beexwax in 6 of their products)

They do partner with 1% for the Planet, but ONLY on the Super Serum Skin Tint. The 1% of sales is dedicated to organizations that support reforestation efforts like One Tree Planted.

The packaging for Ilia is mostly plastic, but they also use recycled aluminum and responsibly sourced paper. They’ve partnered with Pact Collective to mail in old skincare bottles for proper recycling which is cool, but other than that there aren’t any other major sustainability claims. ♻️

So is Ilia sustainable or is it greenwashing?

They’re definitely not greenwashing, but I wish they had a few more sustainability efforts or at least could extend the their 1% for the Planet to apply to all products.

But what do you think?

XOXO,

Krys
