Welcome to the series where I see if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is Love Planet and Beauty sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Last year I said it was greenwashing, but let’s see if anything has changed. 👩🏼‍💻

Welcome to “sustainable or greenwashing month” where everyday leading up to Earth Month I’m sharing if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Love Beauty and Planet was founded by Unilever in 2018 and influenced by the fast-growing trend for natural ingredients.

They are PETA cruelty free, vegan, paraben and sulfate free, and their packaging uses PCR plastic.

I like how they offer some plastic free items like the shampoo & conditioner bars, & I read a few PR articles about some nonprofits they’ve donated to give back.

As far as sourcing goes, they use fragrance from a company (Givaudan) that has some sustainability initiatives which is definitely better than nothing, But that’s kind of where the sustainability initiatives end.

I couldn’t find anything else on their manufacturing processing or ingredient sourcing, or anything of that sort.

They use some odd vague language on their website to address not being perfect and there is this really strange FAQ page that is just copy and paste information for each question which doesn’t even answer the FAQ question to begin with.

So is Love Beauty and Planet sustainable or is it greenwashing?

OK so, with all of that I think it’s totally greenwashing, too many sketchy things are happening on their website and I don’t even like that it was founded by a major corporation in what sounds like a money grab for people caring about the environment. But what do you think? 🪴

XOXO,

Krys Gier
