Is LUSH Sustainable or is it Greenwashing?

Is LUSH sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Welcome to “Sustainable or Greenwashing” series where I’m sharing if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is Lush sustainable or is it greenwashing? 🕵️‍♀️

Lush was founded by 6 friends who wanted effective products that were wholesome, good value, & they didn’t want to spend more money on the packaging than on the contents.

Lush is PETA cruelty free & mostly vegan, but they use terms like “fresh and homemade” which is a little misleading since they use ingredients like parabens, unregulated palm oil, synthetic ingredients, and not all suppliers are certified fair trade. 🫠

Their plastic packaging is made with 100% PCR plastic and offer a return program for the black pots, plus their bags and gift wrap are made from 100% recycled paper. They also offer some completely plastic free items which I always love to see.

I also think it’s cool how Lush offers small grants every year for regenerative farming projects.

So is LUSH sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Overall, I like that they have a lot of plastic free items and invest in regenerative farming, but the ingredients and sourcing definitely seems a little sketchy to me & leans on the greenwashing side of things - but what do you think? 🪴

XOXO,

Krys
