Is Who Gives a Crap sustainable or is it greenwashing?

Welcome to “Sustainable or Greenwashing” series where I’m sharing if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is Who Gives A Crap sustainable or is it greenwashing? Who Gives a Crap was founded as a way to make a difference for the 2 billion people who don't have access to a toilet. 🧻

They are a B Corp, FSC Certified and guarantee their products are biodegradable & BPA Free. 🌎

They only offer paper products made of recycled paper or bamboo largely due to the fact they commissioned a report from an environmental 3rd party about the impact of traditional TP on the environment - and let’s just say it’s not pretty.

The recycled paper products come from recycled paper like textbooks and office paper, and the bamboo comes remote areas of China. The argument in favor of bamboo paper products is that Bamboo grows about 20x faster than trees & its production into paper emits 30% less greenhouse emissions than virgin paper products. HOWEVER, if you’re wondering which is better for the environment - bamboo or recycled toilet paper - Who Gives a Crap says Recycled Toilet paper is the way to go. ♻️

They offer all of this information as well as links to the charities they support and reports they’ve commissioned on their website, so I’d say they’re sustainable - but what do you think? This month we’re doing an ENTIRE month of Sustainable or Greenwashing videos, so if there is a brand you want to see, stick around because it’s probably coming next! 🪴

So is Who Gives a Crap sustainable or is it greenwashing?

I do wish they had more third party certifications, but overall, they seem to be really transparent on their ingredients & carbon footprint and they also seem to be backing up their claims with actions. So it looks sustainable to me - but what do you think? đź’›

XOXO,

Krys
