Is Raw Sugar Sustainable or is it Greenwashing?

This article was last updated May 2024.

Welcome to the series where I see if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Is Raw Sugar sustainable or is it greenwashing? 🕵️‍♀️

Raw Sugar was founded to promote clean and healthy living through products.

Let’s start with the good stuff:

Raw Sugar products are vegan (*lip balms made with beeswax), Paraben free, Sulfate free & Phthalate free, & use many organic ingredients in their products. They are cruelty free but they don’t have a third party certification which always makes me feel a little weary.

Their bottles are made with 30% Post Consumer Recycled Plastic & they have a full commitment to use 100% PCR by 2030. They’re also FSC Certified for paper.

They have the The Raw Sugar Initiative where they partner with organizations like Eco-Soap Bank & Water For People to give back.

HOWEVER, I don’t like how I couldn't find much information regarding manufacturing or ingredient sourcing other than some vague sentences on their website.

So is Raw Sugar sustainable or is it greenwashing?

I want to give Raw Sugar a little bit of a break because it does look to be a smaller business, but they are missing out on some information I would need in order to truly say it’s a sustainable brand. So until they’re more transparent on their ingredient sourcing and manufacturing policies, it does seem a little greenwash-y - but what do you think? 🪴

XOXO,

Krys Gier
