Is Mrs. Meyer’s Sustainable or is it Greenwashing?

One year ago I said it was greenwashing, so let’s see if anything has changed…

Welcome to “Sustainable or Greenwashing” series where I’m sharing if brands and products are actually what they say they are.

Now I always thought this was a cleaner, greener brand, bc when you look at the packaging things look promising.

Let’s start with the positives. All products are leaping bunny certified cruelty free & I appreciate how you can look up each ingredient online and see specifically what it’s used for. Their palm oil is sustainably sourced by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). & the down the drain products meet the European OECD standards for biodegradability. Some, but not all, products manufactured in a LEED-platinum certified factory & they offer a line of products which goes towards turning vacant lots into green spaces.

More recently they’ve launched concentrates and refills, which you guys know I love to see.

HOWEVER, they are owned by the SC Johnson company which isn’t always a good sign. They don’t have much information regarding their ingredient sourcing and use a LOT of vague terms to describe their sustainability efforts with zero information to back their claims.

Mrs. Meyer’s was founded to basically make cleaning supplies smell good. The grandma it was based on was a big gardener which is why they’re all green and garden-y scented.

So is Mrs. Meyer’s sustainable or is it greenwashing?

SO, for a popular brand that would have the money and resources to do better - I’m disappointed. They definitely have more information on their website than they did previously, but not enough to change my mind.

Seems like greenwashing to me - but what do you think?

XOXO,

Krys
