January 2024 #1: 2024, Resolutions, & Celebrating Growth

DOES THE NEW YEAR MEAN A NEW YOU??

Happy New Year, friend!

I usually find myself in a place of deep reflection in December and since this past December marked one year of being self-employed, you bet your bottom dollar that I spent entirely too much time contemplating how I spent my time in 2023.

It’s led me to creating goals for 2024 and (most importantly) figuring out ways to have more balance in my life. I don’t know about you, but after the holidays I feel completely exhausted. It’s fun to visit friends and family and celebrate the beginning of a new year, but afterwards I realize I’ve spent so much time pouring into others “cups” that I’ve forgotten to refill my “cup”, and then BOOM - my social battery is pretty much zero. So this month I’m focusing on balancing my self care and if you’re trying to practice more self care after the hustle and bustle from the holidays - here’s what I recommend to start with:

  1. Prioritize Sleep: Sleep is essential to recharging, so drink some evening tea and make sure you’re going to bed at a reasonable hour.

  2. Practice Mindfulness: Whether you prefer journaling or deep breathing exercises, a little bot of gratitude can help reduce stress from after the holidays.

  3. Nourish your Body: It’s common to overindulge with yummy foods during the holidays, so take a moment to focus on consuming more nutritious foods and staying hydrated to feel more refreshed.

  4. Move your Body: Getting a little bit of movement in whether it’s a HIIT workout, daily walk, or morning stretch helps boost your mood and feel energized. Try it out!

  5. Set Boundaries: If you’re still overwhelmed from all of the holiday parties and get togethers, it’s ok to say no and establish boundaries this month to avoid overcommitting and burnout!

I actually just released an entire podcast episode about this today, so if you want to learn more, you can check it out on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

(Pssst … One of my goals this year is to give this newsletter a little refresh and move to biweekly emails instead of monthly! This email has quickly become one of my favorite routines, and connecting with you guys makes my heart feel so full. I’m excited for this refresh, and would love to know your thoughts.)

What are your goals for 2024? Hit reply and let me know!

This month’s gentle reminder: A Past Version of You is Proud of How Far You’ve Come

With the new year, it seems like everyone is goal setting and getting into routines, and when you’re constantly reminded of other people’s achievements from the previous year, it can make you feel a little down (I’ve been there 🙋🏼‍♀️). Here is your gentle reminder to be kind to yourself because a past version of you is so proud of how far you’ve come. In fact, if you have a moment, I encourage you to journal a few bullet points that younger you would be proud of. I like to write these as if I’m talking to my younger self since something about it feels very therapeutic.

If there was one big thing you did this year and you’d like to share - hit reply and let me know! No one will see it but me & I’ll do a little virtual celebration dance with you. <3
